AC Milan have suffered a lot from injuries in the squad this season. Head coach Stefano Pioli and his coaching staff, along with the club management, are working to understand how to solve the situation, but at the moment, no positive results are being seen in this regard.
Last Sunday, the double injury to Tommaso Pobega and Noah Okafor slightly dampened the sweet taste of a beautiful victory for the Rossoneri over Monza.
Pioli's AC Milan in 'Infortunopoli'
This morning, Tuttosport described Milan's situation as 'Infortunopoli,' which essentially means 'Injury City.' Indeed, as painful as it is to say, the numbers in the infirmary at Milanello keep growing. With the setbacks of Tommaso Pobega and Noah Okafor, the Rossoneri has reached a tally of 29 seasonal injuries.
Examining their nature is striking: 21 of these injuries are non-traumatic. Thus, there are 18 muscular injuries and 3 related to tendons. Surely, the dense fixture schedule and even luck play a role, but considering the excessively high numbers, luck seems a relative factor.
What worsens the situation is that these physical problems have persisted since Pioli's first year with the Rossoneri, in the 2020-2021 season, as relayed via Milan News.
It can't be denied that Pioli, his staff, and the entire Milan organization are trying to isolate and solve the problem. For them, above all, it's a significant limitation not to have the entire team available: the issue for the Rossoneri in this first part of the season seemed to be never having the squad at full strength. Pioli has repeatedly confirmed working on the issue and adopting improvements, but these haven't borne fruit yet, and one hopes it's just a matter of time. However, the season is ongoing, and by the end of it, the injury factor will be considered in evaluating the club's performance.
For someone like Gerry Cardinale, however, all players on the roster, especially those in whom investment has been made, are immensely important assets. These unavailability issues certainly don't bode well for him and the rest of the club.
While it might be challenging to see personnel changes mid-season, it's clear that if there isn't a clear turnaround on this issue, either Pioli or some members of his staff might be at risk of departure at the season's end.
