Former AC Milan and Juventus head coach, Fabio Capello, spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport about the Rossoneri team.
Here are his words first on how Pioli's players can push forward:
"The shirt you wear is among the most glorious in the world. This should be enough to revive oneself, the desire to always honour it no matter what. The coach must lead it to success. If you are Milan, you must try and never give up."
On the young players, he said:
"Investing in them is an act of courage that I see more and more often. Doing so at Milan can be even more challenging. Seeing many young players on the field in the Coppa Italia, and not only there, was beautiful. They have shown spirit and quality."
On Luka Jovic, Capello commented:
"Milan has rediscovered that player they knew they signed last summer. Lately, he has scored and performed well. If he continues like this, that would be important for many reasons: for him, the team, and for healthy competition with Giroud."
On Rafael Leao:
"I've always been a supporter of his. Rafa is one of the few players worth watching. It's normal to expect a lot from him; he had accustomed us to dribbling past opponents, it happened 7/8 times out of 10. Leao needs to rediscover himself, and the goal might have helped. More can be asked of him in terms of defensive participation, but it's more important that he rediscovers his dribbling and goal-scoring ability. Even Savicevic didn't have that much anger to go and recover the ball when he lost it."
On a possible Milan comeback in the league, Capello said:
"Let's tell the truth, the points between Inter and Juventus are many. However, championships are decided in spring. Milan must be consistent and hope the others aren't. Inter might lose some of the grit shown up to now. It's more difficult for that to happen to Juventus. For Milan, any trophy added to the cabinet will have great value, especially if it's a European cup."
