AC Milan lost against Atalanta and exited the Coppa Italia competition from the quarter-final round.
Franco Ordine, the Italian well-known journalist, commented on last night's match at San Siro. Here is his opinion, as relayed in Il Corriere dello Sport.
"Anyone who happened to be at San Siro for the first time last night, knowing almost nothing about the torments and setbacks suffered by Milan in this season of a failed rebuilding, would have quickly grasped the shining merits and glaring deficiencies with which Stefano Pioli has been grappling at Milanello for some months now. The dazzling flash with which Theo Hernandez and Leao set up the initial goal of the Coppa Italia clash, ultimately overturned by Atalanta, was an exemplary demonstration. Those two were born, unknowingly, to form a football partnership of great caliber. This is the best weapon of Milan's attack in this latest era funded by Americans, first Elliott and now RedBird, both discovered by the intuition of the Boban-Maldini duo."
"But now, for some time, Theo Hernandez has been forced to do double duty. To reinvent himself as the central sentinel in front of Maignan due to the absence of a solid group of defenders. The forays of Charles De Ketelaere or Aleksei Miranchuk, plus Teun Koopemeiners' sharp claws on Atalanta's night, left a mark on Milan's raw skin, forced to deal with its original sin: troubles due to injuries and notable absences."
Franco Ordine continued to discuss the AC Milan loss vs Atalanta and said:
"And the debut of Terracciano, the latest addition to Milanello, we can say without hesitation, cannot have filled the serious gaps. In the end, the moral of this second elimination is always the same: there is a need for additional resources to bear the weight of the responsibilities of the crest and the expectations of the fans."
