The brace by Loftus-Cheek, achieved in the match against Bologna, forces an update on the goal numbers coming from the transfer market.
This year's statistics tell us that the summer transfer market brought in 26 goals out of a total of 53.
Specifically, in the league, the new signings contributed 21 goals out of 43. In both cases, almost half of the goals came from new faces. And we're not even considering assists, as that would further increase the numbers.
The top performer at the moment for AC Milan is Pulisic (7), closely followed by Jovic (6). Then, Loftus (5), Okafor (4), Reijnders, and Chukwueze (2). If we compare the current numbers with those of the new signings from the previous season, the contrast is almost embarrassing, writes Milan News.
Last year, there were only 5 goals from the newcomers: three from Pobega, who was returning from various loan experiences, and two from Origi. However, this batch of new additions has even surpassed the seasons of 2020/2021 and 2021/2022: in the first, the newcomers scored a total of 17 goals, and in the second - the Scudetto-winning season - the goals were 22.
Considering Pioli's management, only the first year, when he took over from Giampaolo, saw more goals scored by new signings: in the 2019/2020 season, there were an impressive 38 goals, thanks mainly to Ibra and Rebic. Given the current performance, though, this number could also be surpassed by Pulisic and his teammates.
