As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport in this morning's print edition, Benjamin Sesko is the main target for Milan, but Zirkzee has enchanted the Rossoneri and is climbing the popularity ranks.
Bayern has included in the agreement the option to exercise a clause and purchase Joshua for 40 million euros, a figure that seemed disproportionate six months ago but now appears much more reasonable. Many top clubs will try, and Milan is among them. However, the variable in the equation is the Premier League.
Only English teams have the financial strength to offer 60 or even 70 million euros... and the impression is that reaching such figures is not impossible. In that case, the path would be predictable: Bayern exercising the option for 40 million euros, and a subsequent sale to an English club for a higher amount. Alternatively, Bayern may choose not to reacquire Zirkzee and instead receive a percentage of the resale margin. Zirkzee and Leao together would have fun. Certainly, they wouldn't be one of the most consistent pairs globally, but one of the most entertaining.
Besides Zirkzee, who else is on Milan's radar?
Benjamin Sesko and others... As mentioned, Sesko is liked but comes with a high cost, and a tough negotiation would be required. Santiago Gimenez has scored 19 goals in 19 Eredivisie matches with Feyenoord. In the 2022-23 season, he reached 15 goals. He added two more in the Champions League against Lazio, which is not a bad record.
He is quick in the box and beyond, practical, knows where the goal is, and at the right age: 22 years old. In seven months, when the leagues start, he won't be at Feyenoord. Jonathan David is a long-standing target that should not be forgotten, while among the young talents, Viktor Gyökeres, 25 years old, who moved from Coventry to Sporting Lisbon in the summer, is worth considering. He may not have the profile of a top striker, but he has already scored 13 goals in Portugal and 3 in the Europa League. Milan fans, to avoid mistakes, should start learning how to write his name.
