The winter transfer window has closed a few days ago, and AC Milan did not invest a lot. Only Matteo Gabbia came back from his loan at Villarreal and Filippo Terracciano was signed from Hellas Verona.
On the other hand, Marco Pellegrino, Rade Krunić, Luka Romero, and Chaka Traorè left the club, going on loan to Salernitana, Fenerbahçe, Almería, and Palermo, respectively.
Milan fans are puzzled after the winter transfer market because the team is numerically short of players. Certainly, an additional central defender and midfielder would have been useful, considering the injuries to Malick Thiaw, Fikayo Tomori, Pierre Kalulu, and Tommaso Pobega. Moreover, these were the unmet requests of coach Stefano Pioli. A left-back to serve as a deputy for Theo Hernández and another striker would have undoubtedly been helpful for the coach in a season where the Milan team is still involved in the Europa League as well as in the league, writes Pianeta Milan.
Regarding the attack, for the upcoming summer transfer market, the Milan management has primarily set their sights on two forwards. One is Joshua Zirkzee, born in 2001, a Dutch player from Bologna. The other is Benjamin Sesko, born in 2003, a Slovenian talent from RB Leipzig.
The Italians are enamored with these two profiles: young, with potential, and also with a sense of goal, both capable of playing well for and with the team, as well as leading the attack independently.
The costs of these two players, however, would be high. Bayern Munich has a clause to reclaim Zirkzee from Bologna for 40 million euros. For other clubs, the price is open, with a probable auction exceeding 50 million euros, as half of the Premier League is reportedly interested.
As for Benjamin Sesko, he has a release clause of 50 million euros: it seems Milan has already offered 40 million euros, but here too, watch out for the push from some Premier League clubs.
If neither Zirkzee nor Sesko arrives, who could be Milan's new number 9 in the summer 2024 transfer market?
Names like Jonathan David (Lille), Viktor Gyökeres (Sporting Lisbon), Santiago Giménez (Feyenoord), Artem Dovbyk (Girona) are liked, but keep an eye on an outsider who has never been forgotten at 'Casa Milan'. If, indeed, Antonio Conte replaces Pioli on the bench, Milan could consider making a serious move for Romelu Lukaku. In case he is left out of the Champions League, Roma would not confirm the Belgian striker, whom Chelsea has already decided to sell for 43 million euros in the summer. With Conte in charge, if Zirkzee and Sesko become too expensive, be attentive to an idea that could regain momentum.
