Mike Maignan, who has been under some criticism by media in the recent weeks, has been working very hard at Milanello to prove himself and improve even further. His qualities are never in question at Casa Milan, though, as the managers and coach highly value his profile and contribution to the team's growth.
In fact, the club is thinking of the renewal for the former Lille goalkeepeer. On one hand, there is the awareness that there is relatively calm time to work with given the current contract expiration date is set for June 30, 2026. On the other hand, there is the understanding that an extension will require a significant effort to reward the French international who has seen exponential growth season after season.
Maignan, like Rafael Leao and Theo Hernandez, is considered by the club ownership as one of the stars of the team and therefore, he must be treated like one from an economic point of view.
In the initial discussions with his agent, they started from a base of 5 million euros plus bonuses, which would make the French goalkeeper the highest-paid player in the squad after Leao. It's not yet a formal offer, but a verbal proposal that, as such, can be subject to discussions and evaluations.
The dialogue continues with the mutual desire to reach an agreement. But it will take time and effort because currently, the parties are not close.
Maignan wants to have a contract worth 8 million euros per season. And the market? Bayern Munich and Chelsea are lurking. For Milan, these are two situations to monitor, but they firmly believe that for Mike, 80 to 90 million euros won't be enough; the valuation approaches 100 million euros, as told by Calciomercato.com.
