AC Milan lost 4-2 away from home against Monza. It was a nightmare for the Rossoneri who had the opportunity to take the second spot from Juventus in the league standings.
As emphasized this morning by La Gazzetta dello Sport in its commentary on the match, everything that could have gone wrong last night did go wrong.
AC Milan entered the field with an inadequate attitude which, at the end of the game, resulted in: four balls recovered from the net by Maignan, a foolish action of Luka Jovic which resulted in a red card, and a botched turnover by Stefano Pioli.
To summarise in one word: a disaster.
"We made too serious mistakes, every time we needed to make an impact or defend better, we didn't," Pioli commented after the game, adding, "All the responsibility in the world is mine; I choose the lineup, substitutions, and strategies. I am responsible just like the players because we made mistakes that we don't usually make."
AC Milan, who hadn't lost in the league since mid-December (against Atalanta) and seemed to have made a leap in quality with their recent victories, earned with spirit and determination, instead failed to overtake Juventus, and the Scudetto was definitively handed over to Inter.
