The fate of Joshua Zirkzee is still unknown. But what is certain is that many clubs have expressed interest in signing the 22-year-old Dutchman. The feeling, however, is that in the end, what Zirkzee himself wants may make the difference. Milan, the most interested team in Italy, has good reasons to hope.
As reported this morning by Gazzetta dello Sport, the competition to sign Zirkzee will be fierce. On one hand, there is Bayern Munich, which is the most advantaged club of all: the Bavarians have a buy-back clause of 40 million euros. The Germans' choice could be to trigger the clause and then either sell to the highest bidder or keep him as reinforcement. If this doesn't happen, Bayern will still earn half of the proceeds. There is also lively interest from the Premier League in the Dutchman, but according to the reports, the player would be willing to stay in Italy: Milan would be a step forward in Zirkzee's career.
His willingness could be a crucial factor in Zirkzee's career. There is also a technical aspect to consider: the Rossoneri, like many other clubs, will need to clarify their ambitions for the next season, starting with who will sit on the bench.
Meanwhile, Bologna is considering the selling price. Aware that a minimum of 40 million euros will be earned if Bayern triggers the clause, if this doesn't happen, the Italian club would be ready to set a high price to protect themselves from the 50% due to Bayern. The idea is to set a price similar to that of Rasmus Hojlund, who last summer moved from Atalanta to Manchester United for 75 million plus 10 million in bonuses: the Dutchman is two years older but this year has already scored the same number of goals that the Dane had scored at the end of last season with Atalanta.
Meanwhile, at Casa Milan, they are also considering other possible candidates. The name on par with Zirkzee is Benjamin Sesko of Leipzig: more of a striker and more physical than the Dutchman. But Santiago Gimenez, the young Mexican forward from Feyenoord, who is scoring a flood of goals in the Eredivisie, is also intriguing (21 goals and 5 assists in 30 match). Then there is there is also Jonathan David from Lille and Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon.
