Samuel Chukwueze was the most expensive acquisition of AC Milan's summer 2023 transfer window according to Milan News, but so far, his performance has been well below expectations. In the league, he has not scored a goal yet and only has one assist to his name. He has fifteen appearances in Serie A, starting only seven times. He has scored two goals, though, in the Champions League.
The former Villarreal right-winger has not lived up to expectations so far, especially for Stefano Pioli, who strongly wanted him in the summer. The Rossoneri coach, in the last press conference at Milanello before the match against Atalanta, said this: "The difference between Pulisic and Chukwueze? They have the same characteristics, they play in the same position. But Pulisic scores, assists, and works. Chukwueze needs to score, assist, and work." While the American has been one of the best performers of the Milanese season so far, Chukwueze has undoubtedly been a disappointment.
Things have been slightly better in Europe, as the former Villarreal player scored two goals in the Champions League against Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle. But two goals cannot justify the significant investment Milan made in the summer: 20 million euros plus 8 million in bonuses.
A turnaround is needed in this final part of the season; otherwise, in the summer, the AC Milan club directors might have to assess his future, as told by Milan News.

Chukwueze does need to prove himself quickly. Judging by his performances in La Liga, his abilities go beyond that. If AC Milan continues with a tactic of one center forward and two wingers next season, then Chukwueze could be given another season to showcase his abilities. However, if there are tactical adjustments due to a change in the head coach next season, then Chukwueze will have to reconsider his future.
