The UEFA seasonal ranking still sees Italy at the top, ahead of Germany and England, as reported in La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The possibility of having a fifth team in the Champions League next season depends on this ranking. Italy, which currently has six teams still in contention out of seven, has a one-point advantage over Germany (4 out of 7) and nearly two points over England (6 out of 8). The Europa League and Conference rounds were excellent for the Italian contingent: three wins and one draw.
But how is it calculated? The seasonal coefficient of a federation is calculated by adding up the points obtained by all its teams in a specific season of the three cups and dividing the total sum by the number of clubs still in the running.
The ranking gains greater relevance now because from the next season onwards, everything will change in the Champions League, and the participating teams will increase to 36.
Among the four new spots, two will go to clubs from the two leagues that had the best ranking in the previous year, as reported by Milan News.
