AC Milan, through CEO Giorgio Furlani, President Paolo Scaroni, and RedBird advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic, expressed trust and support to head coach Stefano Pioli.
Now, it seems that the possibility of Pioli staying for next season is very concrete. His contract runs until the end of next season.
And it is precisely on the length of the contract that questions and gossip outside of Milanello are now focusing. Pioli is maintaining excellent performance in recent matches, and is in second place in the standings with a 6-point lead over the third.
Moreover, they are in the quarter-finals of the Europa League with the possibility of playing their cards for the competition to the end. Tuttosport points out that the fact that Pioli could start the next season knowing that his contract is expiring would represent almost a unique situation for a big Italian club.
Yet at the moment, this seems to be the most credible hypothesis. Just as things have changed in a few months, however, even in the next two, in which the seasonal objectives are at stake, the cards on the table could be reshuffled. Not so much towards a separation but rather towards a further approach.
If Pioli were to succeed in winning the Europa League, a trophy never won by the Rossoneri, at that point the club might also decide to propose a contract renewal. At the moment, however, it is too early: all evaluations will be postponed until the end of the season.
