AC Milan's adventure in the Europa League came to an end at the Olimpico against AS Roma in quarter-finals. The Rossoneri suffered a 0-1 loss at San Siro last week then lost 2-1 last night.
There is great disappointment for the club and fans, but Pioli and his team must now focus on the derby which shall be played next Monday.
As told by Tuttosport, the AC Milan head coach's future is in jeopardy. He still has one year left in his contract. But, the big distance between the team and Inter in the league, the exit from the Champions League from the group stage, then also exiting Europa League at the hands of Roma make it too difficult to keep Pioli for another season.
Those who expected a fierce start from the Rossoneri were immediately disappointed: after 22 minutes, the Milanese lineup was already in shambles, having conceded two goals (scored by Mancini and Dybala). In the 31st minute, Celik was sent off, leaving Roma with ten men, but this didn't change much, as they never fully exploited their numerical superiority. A few minutes before the final whistle, Gabbia scored a consoltation goal, and that was it.
The elimination stings a lot and seems to have written the final chapter of Pioli's adventure on the Rossoneri bench.
