In view of tonight's derby, Gerry Cardinale landed in Milan in the past few hours. The founder of RedBird, however, is not here just for the match, but also for other matters that obviously concern the Rossoneri club, primarily the issue of the new coach since Stefano Pioli's departure at the end of the season is now almost a certainty.
As reported this morning by La Gazzetta dello Sport, before heading to San Siro for the challenge against Inter, Cardinale will have a series of meetings with key figures of Milan: from CEO Giorgio Furlani to sporting director Geoffrey Moncada, in addition to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, his trusted man.
Many things will be discussed, but clearly the priority will be to discuss the future of the Rossoneri's bench. Also because the final word belongs to the American manager. The names circulating are diverse: the one currently being mentioned most frequently is Julen Lopetegui, the Spanish coach who, among other things, has already had a meeting with Cardinale. There are also other candidates, such as Fonseca, formerly with Roma and now at Lille.
But Cardinale's day will not revolve solely around the coaching issue: it's possible, in fact, that the head of RedBird could also meet with Giuseppe Sala, the mayor of Milan, to discuss the stadium. Meanwhile, in recent days, the program agreement has been launched in San Donato, but decisions need to be made regarding the external structure of the facility, perhaps regarding naming rights.
