The Milan club has reportedly set their sights on Renato Veiga, a 20-year-old midfielder who currently plies his trade for Basel and had played in the past for Sporting CP.
Confirming this is the player's father-agent, Nelson Veiga, who told 'Numero Diez' the following:
"What I know is that Milan has been following Renato Veiga for a long time. Obviously, with the transfer window opening, they could make a move. Right now, they are still interested and observing his performances. However, there's nothing concrete yet, no official offer from Milan. There are various clubs from the top 5 leagues with whom I have already had contacts. We'll see what happens... There are clubs from Ligue 1, the Premier League, and another Serie A club (besides Milan) that have shown interest for a while. Even during the winter transfer window, there were discussions and information exchanged, but, in agreement with the player, we decided to finish the season at Basel and postpone everything to the summer session, closing off any possibilities. The next few weeks will be important."
Regarding his son's season, Nelson Veiga stated, as relayed via Milan News:
"Renato Veiga is very ambitious. The idea has always been to join Basel, have a good season, and help the club achieve its goals. At the moment, his recovery from the injury is going well, he has already started running again. He will return to play within a few weeks. Fortunately, the ankle sprain was not severe, but annoying. I can't wait for him to come back. He has had the opportunity to grow and showcase himself to bigger clubs. At the end of the season, he wants to take the next step if the conditions satisfy him and Basel. He's now capable of playing at higher levels."
