Alessandro Florenzi spoke to DAZN after the Milan-Genoa match which ended in a 3-3 result.
Here are his statements.
On the current situation, both on and off the field:
"It's a particular moment, where we haven't been winning for a while, and for Milan, this isn't good. Today we came very close, but we couldn't make it. We gave our all, and we can hold our heads high."
What did you think of the atmosphere in the stadium today?
"A bit strange... They make their choices, and as far as I'm concerned, they do it for the good of Milan. I don't think it's easy for them not to support their heart's team. I empathise, and I understand them."
How are you handling the rumors about Stefano Pioli?
"I think the coach has given a lot in these years; he changed a mentality that was there before. It's solely thanks to him that we've come this far. When he took over the team, it had been out of Europe for a long time, hadn't made it to a Champions League semifinal in I don't know how long, hadn't won a Scudetto in 11 years. Whether you want it or not, Milan will play in the Champions League again next year; we have a goal of finishing second. The coach is very absorbent; he tries not to let anything get to us. Those who know him well know how much Milan means to him and how much he cares about these people for what he's given them over the years. I don't know if he'll remain our coach or not, but I think the whole team is with him for everything he's given to Milan over these years."
What has been missing from this group? Florenzi answered:
"The details that could have led us to win a few more games. We have to face every game at our best, especially because we are Milan. The fans today made this gesture because they want a stronger Milan, obviously this year we wanted to try to bring home a trophy and we didn't succeed. We are disappointed like them, from what I can think, they can rest assured, we've never lacked commitment. If we had lacked commitment, then I would have been really worried; we've always gone out with our heads held high. I'm sure they appreciate this."
Did the elimination from the Europa League affect the judgments? Or was it more about the derby? Florenzi said:
"In my opinion, those 10 days weighed heavily on all of us. There were hopes from everyone to play for a trophy, and we were knocked out by Roma. Surely Inter's Scudetto victory took something away. If another team had won, maybe we'd be talking about something else, but we're still disappointed for not winning the Scudetto. But we would have been talking about something else, in my opinion."
