Interviewed by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Arrigo Sacchi explained what he believes Milan did wrong this season:
"As I've repeated many times, signing so many foreigners in the last transfer window was a risk, and if Pioli had been the one to choose, the responsibilities would also be his, but I don't think so. Let's not forget that the decision to part ways with Maldini and Massara was also a questionable move. Now, much, if not everything, will depend on the choice of the new coach."
Sacchi added:
"It's a phase where there's a team, Inter, more equipped to win. Milan in recent years won a title after a beautiful head-to-head with Inter, then Napoli and Inter won, respectively. I understand that losing so many derbies has hurt Milan fans, but in the past, Inter has suffered too. I remember once, after a derby won by my Milan, Lawyer Prisco came to me and said, 'If it had been a boxing match, I would have thrown in the towel. We lost, but without conceding too many goals. And we were lucky because we didn't even cross the halfway line.' Cycles change, moments pass: I hope Milan fans once again demonstrate their great sports culture and their love for the club, without being blinded by Inter's recent successes. We must remember that the club comes before the team, and the team before the players."
