Manuele Baiocchini, the Italian journalist of Sky Sport Italia, made these statements, confirming that Milan's choice is Fonseca:
"The profile chosen by Milan is Fonseca. Regarding updates in the coming days, there certainly will be, because Milan needs to proceed with a series of formal steps to contract Fonseca. Starting with him needing to decline the various offers he has received and move forward with Milan. Offers such as the contract renewal with Lille, the team he coached this season, with which he finished fourth in the standings."
He added:
"Considering the goal they conceded in the 93rd minute, Lille will have to go through the Champions League preliminaries next year. Another offer came from Marseille, which Fonseca will reject, as reported in recent days, because he wants to proceed with Milan's proposal to take over the Rossoneri's bench, replacing Stefano Pioli. Milan must also reach an agreement with Pioli for his contract termination."
Regarding Stefano Pioli's situation with Milan, here's what the journalist said:

"Pioli's contract is a burden for Milan at 11.5 million gross, including Pioli and his staff, with the contract expiring in 2025. It is also normal for Milan to want to at least try to reach an agreement with the current Milan coach and then agree with the new coach. Therefore, there are steps to be taken, technical steps, which will probably require a few more days. We'll see if by the end of this week there might be the termination of the contract with Stefano Pioli, allowing the current Milan coach to bid farewell to his people."
Paulo Fonseca should be Milan's coach...
"And then the choice, the official announcement of the new coach, could come a few days later. There is also the tour in Australia as a dividing point. Probably after the tour in Australia, Milan will announce who the coach will be for the coming seasons and, as mentioned in recent days, barring any surprises, it will be Paulo Fonseca."
