Paulo Fonseca's profile is still a very promising candidate for Milan as they look to replace their current head coach Stefano Pioli this summer. It should be noted, however, that the Portuguese tactician whose contract expires this summer is not only on the Rossoneri's wishlist.
As per the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport in this morning's print edition, many top teams are changing their coach and the former Roma manager is in the running on several fronts.
Last night, after his Lille's final game of the season against Nice, Fonseca stated about his future:
"I will make my decision this week. I still have to speak with the president, with whom I have a meeting to discuss the future. I think next week will be decisive for my future."
Meanwhile, Lille's president, Olivier Létang, said these words about Fonseca's future:
"In general, this evening I don't want to talk about individual cases. We'll sit down and talk at the beginning of the week. Everything remains possible. Of course, direct qualification for the Champions League would have been something more positive for everyone, but I want to remember the overall result."
Lille failed to earn direct qualification to the next edition of the Champions League in their last game. Instead, they will have to play playoffs to reach the elite European competition. Against Nice yesterday, in fact, they drew 2-2. They were leading 2-1. But, the equaliser came in the 93rd minute. Brest, though, have beaten Toulouse 3-0 and have thus secured direct qualification to the Champions League by overtaking Lille in the third position.
