Now that Stefano Pioli's tenure has come to an end, marked by the emotional farewells from the San Siro crowd last night, AC Milan looks to the future with Paulo Fonseca, who appears to be the only remaining candidate for the role of the new head coach.
Arrigo Sacchi commented on the pages of La Gazzetta dello Sport about this choice and wrote the following words:
"To be honest, I expected a more prominent name. Or at least, since I am Italian, I hoped the management would choose a coach from our country. Yes, he coached Roma, but he did not dazzle. Fonseca was very successful in Ukraine, where he led Shakhtar Donetsk and won three consecutive championships. In France, he achieved a fifth and a fourth place, not exceptional results. To dismiss him outright? Let's not exaggerate. It's a choice that should be assessed based on the work and the style of play he will offer to the public. Fonseca should be given the necessary time to assemble the team. We must avoid prejudices. I will be the first to applaud him if Milan entertains and proves to be a courageous, modern, European team."
