Luciano Moggi, former executive of Juventus, Roma, and Napoli, spoke to 'Elleradio' during the program "Tutto il mio Calcio e non Solo." He shared many thoughts on the situation at Milan, specifically regarding the expected coaching change: Paulo Fonseca coming in to replace Stefano Pioli.
Here's what he said:
"I would take Pioli for any team because in Milan he has given what many others could not, and more: he was mocked because for a year they mentioned a thousand names of coaches, but he always endured and finished second. They criticise him for losing all the derbies, for being eliminated in the Champions League and Europa League, but one year he won the Scudetto and twice he finished second. This means he did more than well, and whoever replaces him, I believe, will have quite a few headaches."
On Fonseca, Moggi said:
"Fonseca is a 'yes man': if they sell Theo Hernandez, he accepts it because he is a company man. It’s a change I personally would not have made."
On Stefano Pioli, he said:
"Pioli is not particularly to blame. Last year he coached a team with eight new players, with Furlani's algorithms, but he got ‘half a bridge’: they are all decent players, but there is no high-level midfielder. They had a real midfielder, Tonali, who could play in front of the defence to stop the opponent and restart the team, and they sold him. Bennacer had a serious injury and has just returned. They criticise Pioli for conceding 49 goals, but this team didn’t have density in midfield, it put on a show, and shows are for theaters."
