Recently, Giuseppe Sala, the mayor of Milan, made sharp statements regarding the issue of the new stadiums for Milan and Inter.
Speaking to Sky Sport, the mayor, referring to the constructions in San Donato and Rozzano, emphasized:
"Two stadiums so close together cannot coexist." The Rossoneri club's response to these words came promptly via a statement to ANSA.
Here's the statement:
"Regarding what has been reported by the media about the new stadium project in San Donato, AC Milan emphasizes that the proposed site is a private and buildable area, on which an already approved Integrated Intervention Plan allows the construction of 108,000 square meters of Gross Floor Area.
"As reiterated several times, the area involved in the stadium's construction is not part of the Parco Agricolo Sud Milano, is not a green space, but is currently abandoned and degraded. Following the planning of the Municipality of San Donato, which identified it as an Intervention Area for urban regeneration, Sport Life City (a company controlled by AC Milan, owner of the land) is working with the State Police and the Municipality of San Donato to clean up the entire area and secure it, freeing it from criminal activities and undesirable presences."
"The area benefits from infrastructure such as the San Donato station, accessible via the railway link, and the MM3 metro stop, which is only 1.2 km away. The nearby Rogoredo station is conveniently connected with high-speed railway lines from Naples, Rome, Florence, Bologna, Turin, and Venice. The site is also reachable via the A1 motorway, for which new exits and entrances are planned, and from the existing Metanopoli ring road, which already has an interchange. Additionally, several traffic flow studies, conducted recently as well, have highlighted the absence of critical issues in accessing the new stadium."
"The project is not incompatible with the potential construction of a new Inter stadium in Rozzano. The distance between the two facilities would indeed be 18 km by car, while for instance, in the city of London, there are as many as eight stadiums built at even considerably shorter distances."
