AC Milan continues its search for a new forward to wear the number 9 shirt left vacant by Olivier Giroud for the next season. It is well known that the main target is Joshua Zirkzee, for whom the club has already agreed to pay the 40 million euro release clause. Bologna's Zirkzee has expressed his desire to stay in Italy and wear the red and black jersey. However, an agreement on the commissions with agent Kia Joorabchian is still missing, as he demands at least 15 million euros in this regard, a figure AC Milan is not willing to reach.
Currently, Milan is also working on a Plan B, which is now focused on Artem Dovbyk, a striker for the Ukrainian national team set to compete in Euro 2024 in a few days, and primarily a centre-forward for Girona, a standout team in La Liga this season.
The Catalan club achieved a historic qualification for the Champions League, thanks in part to the 24 goals scored by the Ukrainian in the league. By doing so, Dovbyk broke a 16-year record: he won the top scorer title in the Spanish league, becoming the first to do so for a team other than Real Madrid or Barcelona since Daniel Guiza, who scored 27 goals for Mallorca in the 2007/2008 season.
