Giorgio Furlani was interviewed in Madrid by Gazzetta dello Sport. The Milan executive didn't just talk about the Alvaro Morata deal, but also about what is expected for the future of the Rossoneri's transfer market in this summer session.
Details of the transfer:
"Everything is in order with the player, he has signed a contract that will bind him to us for the next 4 seasons, plus an optional one. As for the transfer, it has not yet been completed because there are technical issues to resolve, triggering the termination clause is a complex and delicate procedure that we are carrying out with the utmost attention."
The move to Milan despite declarations of love for Atletico Madrid:
"It means that we are very convincing. We convinced him with a great team effort. Special mention goes to Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paulo Fonseca. The former explained to him what it means to play in Milan and be the center forward of this team, the latter told him how he wants to use him. And here the value of our coach was decisive."
Milan has a new leader... Furlani commented:
"Alvaro is someone who last year scored 21 goals with Atletico, in addition to those with the national team. Someone who has scored everywhere: Italy, Spain, England, Champions. Someone who has won 20 trophies in his career: this habit of success was decisive for us. We are very satisfied, and I add a couple of things: the first, more general, is that Alvaro has a great desire to come to Milan and is very confident that the Milan stage will be the best of his already decidedly brilliant career. Confidence that we fully share. The second, more personal, is that being with him I understood why they chose him as captain of the national team: they gave him the armband because he speaks like a leader, it's something that impressed me."
Are there other deals?
"We know what we are doing and we are not distracted by names and rumours that circulate. A year ago on the market we were not shy, but it is clear that we needed to remake half the team. This year that need is not there so we are moving on very targeted objectives. We have already taken the center forward."
On Lazar Samardzic and Youssouf Fofana:
"Good players, but we do not focus on a single player because it is not done like this, we see which situations develop best. I repeat, the summer of 2024 is very different from that of 2023."
