In two days, Milan will depart for the United States where, for the second consecutive year, they will be on their summer tour and play three high-profile friendlies (Manchester City, Real Madrid, Barcelona). However, this could also be the decisive week for Youssouf Fofana, the French midfielder from Monaco who has been targeted by the Rossoneri for some time, and with whom an agreement on the contract is already in place.
In recent hours, there has been a strong resurgence of interest from Manchester United and Atlético Madrid for Fofana: the British and Spanish clubs have inquired with Monaco. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, this has prompted Milan to accelerate in the past few hours to resolve the issue with the Monegasques quickly and avoid another situation like with Zirkzee.
According to the newspaper, there were positive phone contacts between the two managements yesterday which moved things forward: an agreement has been reached on the fixed part of the deal, which is around 14 million euros. In the upcoming meetings, the focus will be on the bonuses, and then Fofana can finally consider himself a Rossonero. Gazzetta also emphasizes that things could conclude positively within the next 48-72 hours. Fofana is thus one step away from Milan.
As mentioned, Fofana already has an agreement with Milan. Once the final issues between the two clubs are resolved, the French midfielder will be able to sign a four-year contract worth 3 million euros, including bonuses. This way, the midfielder will secure double the salary he is currently earning in Monaco and will have the chance to compete for a starting position in Fonseca’s lineup. At Milan, Fofana will also reunite with national team mates Maignan and Theo, as well as a substantial French or Francophone representation. Interestingly, the player was in Italy recently: over the weekend, his friend Moussa Diaby got married in Florence. Diaby, currently with Aston Villa, is set to move to Al-Ittihad in the Saudi league. Fofana is already getting a feel for what could be his future home.
