Milan is now moving decisively towards acquiring a new defensive midfielder. Specifically, the Rossoneri continue to focus on Youssouf Fofana, the French midfielder from Monaco who is set to be out of contract at the end of the season. However, Monaco is asking for 35 million euros.
Given the current conditions and the contractual situation, this request is considered excessive by Milan, who do not want to spend more than 20 million euros and hope that Monaco might lower their demands, especially given Fofana's strong desire to join Fonseca's team.
If Monaco does not relent, as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport, alternative options are already prepared. These include Manu Koné, the French midfielder from Borussia Mönchengladbach and recent Olympic silver medalist, and Johnny Cardoso, the American from Betis Sevilla with an Italian passport.
For both players, Milan could allocate the same amount they offered Monaco for Fofana: around 20 million euros.
