After strengthening their attack and defence, Milan is now focusing all its efforts on bolstering the midfield. The name that the Rossoneri management has been pursuing for the past two months is French midfielder Youssouf Fofana, whose contract is owned by Monaco and was called up by France national team coach Didier Deschamps for the recent Euro 2024 competition. For the moment, Monaco has other plans and is making things quite complicated.
In this protracted negotiation, one thing has always been clear and certain: Youssouf Fofana’s desire. The French midfielder has always considered Milan as his only option. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, this remains the case: significant offers from the Premier League, specifically from West Ham and Manchester United, have been turned down. This is why the Rossoneri continue to hope. Currently, Milan has put about 20 million euros on the table, which they consider a fair price for a player whose contract expires in a year. Monaco is asking for 35 million, and it seems they want to get at least as much as Nice did for Thuram, around 25 million.
Milan is relying on Fofana’s desire to join and hopes that Monaco will ease their stance as the end of August approaches. Otherwise, Fofana is willing to wait until January or even next July to join Milan on a free transfer. At least, this is the situation as of now.
