AC Milan announces that Emerson Aparecido Leite de Souza Junior, better known as Emerson Royal, has joined the Club on a permanent basis from Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. The Brazilian defender has signed a contract with the Rossoneri until 30 June 2028 with an option for a one-year extension.
Born in São Paulo (Brazil) on 14 January 1999, Emerson Royal started his career playing youth football for Ponte Preta, with whom he made his first-team debut in February 2017. He made 25 appearances and scored one goal for the Campinas-based outfit. In 2018, he joined Atlético Mineiro (23 appearances and one goal) before signing for Real Betis in January 2019. He ended his time in the South of Spain with five goals in 79 appearances. Following a brief stint at Barcelona, his most recent spell was at Tottenham, where he made 101 appearances and scored four goals since his arrival in 2021.
He has won ten caps for Brazil, having made his debut in November 2019.
Emerson Royal will wear the number 22 shirt.
