Theo Hernandez is not spending his best moments these days when it comes to Milan. He has recently been receiving criticism due to his poor performances but also for the cooling break controversy which was caused alongside his teammate and friend, Rafael Leao.
Between a possible exit and renewal discussions with Milan
It's no secret that over the summer, the Frenchman was the subject of some transfer rumors (with frequent talk of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid), and who knows if these rumors, combined with his late arrival at Milanello due to the European Championship, have mentally affected him at the start of this season.
There's also another issue concerning Theo Hernandez that’s being discussed at Casa Milan: his contract renewal, which expires in 2026. The player and the club are already in talks, but for now, there’s still a gap between the parties. As reported by Corriere dello Sport this morning, the Frenchman is asking for a salary increase from the current 4 million to 8 million euros, while Milan is unwilling to exceed 6-7 million per season (Leao, the highest-paid player on the Milan squad, earns six million plus bonuses, which can go up to seven million).
Milan confident in negotiations with Theo Heranndez.
The negotiations are proceeding with the right confidence, as confirmed by Zlatan Ibrahimovic on August 21: "We are talking. Everything is under control, everything is okay. We know what we want from them (the renewal of Mike Maignan was also part of the discussion), and they know what they want from us. It’s a situation that could be resolved in a minute or take a bit more time, but everything is fine."
Meanwhile, the focus must also be on the field, and after the first negative performances, everyone at Milanello expects Theo Hernandez to step up immediately after the break, as pointed out by Milan News.
