Milan, we have a problem.
La Gazzetta dello Sport published today that the French fullback, Theo Hernandez, has had a poor start this season, not only with the Rossoneri but also with the French national team. Behind this difficult start, there’s certainly a physical issue, but also a mental one, as the Frenchman doesn’t seem to have the same energy as before.
Arriving at Milanello after the European Championship only on August 3, it’s clear that Theo can’t be in top form, but he also can’t be the player we’ve seen in Milan’s first three matches of the season.
Added to this is the infamous cooling break incident in Rome, which brought further criticism toward Milan’s number 19.
The Frenchman hoped to forget all the controversies with the national team, but even with France, he hasn’t managed to find peace (in fact, his poor performance against Italy has drawn more criticism in his homeland).
The feeling, however, is that this period of decline isn’t just about physical issues but also mental ones, perhaps related to the contract renewal. His contract expires in 2026, and so far, no progress has been made toward an extension, unlike his teammate Mike Maignan. A few weeks ago, Zlatan Ibrahimović reassured fans that there is no problem with Theo’s renewal, but for now, the agreement has yet to be reached.
