Angel Correa, the 29-year-old Atlético Madrid forward from Argentina, was one of AC Milan's transfer targets a few years ago. In an interview with Relevo, the player discussed this possibility, which was very close to happening. Here's why it didn't materialize:
"I was close to leaving Atlético Madrid twice. Once when I was about to go to Italy and once when I was about to go to Saudi Arabia. Why didn't the move to Milan happen? On the last day, everything was about to go through, but then Miguel Ángel Gil Marin (Atlético Madrid's CEO) called me. He didn't want me to leave; he asked me not to go and to do him the favour of staying. So I stayed. Fortunately, that year we won the league", as relayed via Pianeta Milan.
Angel Correa added:
"At that time, I needed a change. The opportunity with Milan came up, which is also a great club, and I wanted to go, to try with my family, to play. But in the end, it didn't happen. All to stay at Atlético, which I actually feel is my home, and I'm very happy here."
