Over the years, Inter and Milan have changed ownership several times. We all remember the first-ever "Chinese derby" in 2017. Tonight, however, will mark the first Derby della Madonnina with American ownership.
"Milan: The American Dream"
That was the headline used by 'La Gazzetta dello Sport' After Milan, Inter has also come under the control of a U.S. fund, Oaktree.
Two closely linked worlds will face off for the first time on the field, with the hope that the field itself can become a source of ambition and shared solutions. The initial idea of sharing a stadium has resurfaced, with San Siro as the leading option, although doubts remain regarding renovation.
In the meantime, the two funds, working to enhance their respective assets in terms of competitiveness and especially sustainability, are striving to get their finances in order. RedBird has already succeeded on the financial front, while Oaktree is reducing its deficit. The challenge is open: to win on the field and grow, but sustainably. And the much-awaited derby is now painted in American colours.
