Italian journalsit, Alberto Polverosi, in Corriere dello Sport commented on the victory of Milan against Inter:
"The Milan had a triple, very difficult mission. And they accomplished all three perfectly. The first: they could not lose, but they did more, much more, despite facing an opponent that had recently held Manchester City to a draw. The second: they had to prove they were a healthy team, which was not easy after being trampled by Liverpool; Milan reappeared in full health. The third: they had to restore dignity to their coach, who had been harshly criticised during this complicated start to the season."

Milan displayed a strong team on the pitch...
"It was Fonseca, with courageous choices, who regained the esteem of the Milan fans in just one night. Ending a streak of six consecutive derby defeats with a deserved victory puts him in a position of great serenity. A derby with simple goals is a mere derby. This was not the case. Pulisic scored by splitting one of the strongest defences in Europe in two, as Guardiola knows well; Dimarco's goal was equally beautiful and precise, coming from a cross-field pass by Barella, a right-left that reached Dimarco, then Lautaro, and finally set Dimarco up perfectly for that fearsome left-footed shot. And Gabbia's final leap was impressive. We did not see a mere derby, especially when compared to another top match played the day before, Juve-Napoli. Thiago Motta-Conte were in control, Inzaghi-Fonseca were in battle. It was the usual Inter in terms of formation, but not in spirit, aggression, or compactness. Against City, they would never have conceded a goal like the one Pulisic scored. In fact, before conceding that goal, Inzaghi turned to his bench to say, 'We are sleeping.' As a formation, it was not the usual Milan either. Nor in character, application, or strength. Perhaps Fonseca built it thinking of himself, his difficulties, and the banal criticisms he was receiving from all sides; thus he put his chest out and deployed Pulisic and Leao on the flanks, with Morata behind Abraham. Morata is an intelligent player; he knew how and where to position himself around Calhanoglu."
Milan forwards knew how to play against Inter:
"On one point, Inter and Milan could be similar even last night: Morata and Lautaro are forwards who know how to play for the team, who think about the team, who work for the team. Morata bothered Calhanoglu, while Lautaro created the best chances, including the one that led to the goal. It was only the fifth matchday, but beyond the leaders Torino, Napoli's 10 points and Juve's 9 already represented a small, very small advantage. A year ago, Inter started with 5 wins in 5 matches (Dimarco scored in Empoli on the fifth matchday); now they have already drawn twice and lost the derby. The chasing Inter is news. But more than the Nerazzurri, Milan had much more to lose: the coach. Instead, Fonseca put forward the winning idea. At the beginning of the second half, he remained in his jacket and shirt while Inzaghi took off his jacket and tie. Simone was sweating (cold) watching Inter concede chance after chance."
Goalkeeper Yann Sommer saved Inter from more Milan goals...
"Only Sommer saved them from sinking. And while Inzaghi, after an hour, started making substitutions (removing too much height from Inter), dissatisfied with what was happening at San Siro, the Portuguese remained calm, waited, and won with one of his two courageous choices: Gabbia’s header, who played instead of Pavlovic."
