AC Milan club management are working on protecting their interests and assets. One of the main players who must be kept happy is certainly Mike Maignan, whose contract runs until 2026.
According to a report published by those at Milan News, the renewal negotiation between the parties has been ongoing for "several weeks". The player's entourage and club directors are reportedly very close with "one step away" from reaching an agreement.
The goal is to extend the former Lille goalkeeper's contract until 2028 which will also include significant salary increase: from the current 2.8 million euros to over 5 million euros net per season.
Maignan's desire for redemption...
As per the same source, Maignan's last season was a difficult one. He even said so himself in a recent interview (read full transcript here)
"Last season, for those who followed Milan a bit, I realised I had lost the battle against myself. Because my struggle is to stay focused on what I'm good at, on myself, and not get caught up in everything happening around me. I had to fight tough battles. The battle I had to fight, I didn’t fight, so I knew I would lose it. So what I'll do now, as I’ve already said, is learn from everything to come back strong next season."
