AC Milan, down to ten men for over an hour, won against Udinese after a match filled with struggle and teamwork despite key absences like Theo (suspended) and Leao (a technical decision).
That was a clear message from Paulo Fonseca: the group comes before the individual. Billy Costacurta, in his appearance on Sky Sport 24, commented:
"I think Fonseca communicated with the players throughout the week. In my opinion, he wanted to send a message to the media and the outside world, showing that he was tired of certain situations. The penalty situation was even more serious than what happened at Roma. I believe the penalty issue is something very hard to get over, and he wanted to make himself heard about that, taking charge of the team first with his words and then with his lineup."
Costacurta added:
"He fielded a team that responded well, and the team performed as he wanted. And that’s something those who were left out need to understand. The one who played in Leao’s place yesterday played better than Leao!"
