Interviewed on TMW Radio, Padova's current Sporting Director, Massimiliano Mirabelli, shared his thoughts on the topic of second teams, specifically mentioning the 'Milan Futuro' project.
"I am very much in favour of second teams. I’d like to remind those who might not know that when they were introduced, I was at Milan, and alongside Juventus, we fought to implement them, paving the way for this to happen. Later, Milan changed ownership, we left, and the directors at the time decided not to follow Juve’s lead."
Mirabelli continued to talk about the Milan Futuro project:
"I’m still pleased that, even if late, Milan now has its U23 team. I’m certain more will follow. This is a positive development both for the clubs that have these teams and for Serie C clubs. The former provide young players with the opportunity to face a league of a certain standard, while the latter benefit from competing against young but highly talented squads."
"Moreover, it’s worth considering that the biggest budgets are in the hands of these second teams, with clubs making significant investments and recruiting the best young talents in Europe. For the football system as a whole—on both sides—this experiment can only bring advantages."
