Tuttosport wrote how a training match can change your life and maybe your career.
This is the case of Bob Murphy Omoregbe.
He went from being an excess player for Milan Futuro to making his Serie A debut in just a few days.
The turning point was the joint training session on Wednesday between the First Team and the Under-23s. During this session, Bobby stood out with a couple of remarkable runs down the flank. His accelerations caused problems for more well-known Serie A players and caught the attention of Sergio Conceiçao, who complimented the 2003-born winger at the end of the training.
This led to him being included in the first team the next day, training with them on Thursday and Friday.
The former Fiorenzuola player didn’t yet know that this was just the beginning of his fairy tale. On Saturday morning, Conceiçao announced the call-ups for the league match against Cagliari: among the names was the surprising inclusion of Omoregbe.
The decision was driven by the need for an additional attacking option to cover for the absences of Chukwueze and Okafor. After choosing his shirt number (he took number 77), it was time to join the team at San Siro. However, Conceiçao’s call-up wasn’t just a reward for his strong performances in training: Omoregbe truly impressed the coach, who decided to bring him on in place of a top player like Rafa Leao in the final moments of the match.
Bobby seized the opportunity in the best way possible, almost setting up the winning goal with one of his signature runs down the right: too bad that Abraham missed the chance to make it 2-1.
Despite that, Saturday will still be a night to remember for the right winger who grew up in the youth ranks of Borgosesia. And the best is yet to come. Until a few days ago, Bobby was expected to say goodbye to the Rossoneri club.
His contract was expiring in June, and the little space he had been given by Bonera had led sporting director Kirovski to approve a permanent transfer. The frontrunner was Campobasso (who had reached a rough agreement with his managers Aldo Preite and Gianluca Mancini), but now they will have to wait and maybe look elsewhere for reinforcements.
After all, who better than Conceiçao, who played as a right winger, to judge and assess the potential of an attacking winger?
And so, Omoregbe is now preparing to sit on the bench even for the match against Como, dreaming of carving out more playing time. Campobasso can wait.
