During Open VAR on DAZN, Elenito Di Liberatore, representing the AIA, analyzed and commented on the video of Cacace’s foul on Walker in Empoli - Milan.
Below is the transcript of the conversation between referee Pairetto and VAR referee Serra (referee of the famous Milan-Spezia match in 2022) - Chiffi, as relayed via Milannews.it:
Referee Luca Pairetto: “Can you check how he intervened? Because for me it’s just a minimal touch…”
Serra and Chiffi at VAR: “The leg is extended, the (shoe) stud is exposed…”
The two at VAR choose the right camera angle, then comment: “There’s not much intensity, but… At normal speed, it looks bad to me. Let’s see Cacace’s leg: he leaves the leg and goes in hard. Maybe the defender’s foot continues to slide, but it’s never planted on the ground…”
When everything seemed to suggest a VAR intervention, the control conclusion comes.
Chiffi: “Would you leave it like this?”
Pairetto: “Check completed.”
The studio returns, where AIA's Di Liberatore comments on the referee’s decision, justifying it as follows:
"Here, of course, we start from the end. It was correct not to intervene from the VAR point of view because there’s no intensity. Therefore, although there may be the ‘bad image,’ it’s correct not to intervene for the review. The yellow would have been the right decision."
