The mayor of Bologna, Matteo Lepore, has spoken about the Bologna - Milan league match, which was postponed due to the flood that struck the city on October 26, 2024, and was rescheduled for last Thursday evening, when Vincenzo Italiano's Rossoblù secured a 2-1 victory.
The mayor, interviewed by Alanews, doubled down on his criticism of the Rossoneri club and the leadership of Italian football.
"I was certainly very shocked by the fact that a prestigious club like Milan failed to understand the great difficulties our city faced due to the flood, especially since they even asked us for damages over the postponement."
"As mayor, I acted in good conscience and within my responsibilities. I find it appalling that a mayor is sued for damages just for doing his duty. It really makes you think about how the big and powerful figures in Italian football are too spoiled in this country."
"The fact that I am the only mayor since the one in Florence during the Florence flood to halt a Serie A football match in the face of a tragedy—because football has always been considered separate from everything else—really makes you think. It makes you think that the law is not the same for everyone in this country."
