Milan is looking for a new sporting director, who in turn will choose the coach for next season. The departure of Sergio Conceição at the end of the campaign already seems to be set in stone, but the Portuguese coach still wants to try to earn confirmation for another year. To do so, he will need to achieve two key objectives in this final stretch of the season: securing fourth place and winning the Coppa Italia.

Is fourth place reachable?
As reported this morning by Tuttosport, both targets are very difficult to reach. In Serie A, the last Champions League spot is currently six points away. While that gap is not impossible to close, given there are still nine matches left to play, two major obstacles remain. First, Milan has several teams ahead of them (five in total), meaning they must hope that multiple rivals drop points. Second, they need an almost flawless run-in, and consistency has not exactly been Milan’s strength this season.
Conceicao's Milan aims for Coppa Italia?
The Coppa Italia objective is equally challenging, as Milan will have to face Inter in two derby clashes in the semifinals. It is true that the Rossoneri remain unbeaten in Milan derbies this season, but the Nerazzurri are the strongest team in Italy, making Conceição’s side clear underdogs. The Portuguese coach, however, is not giving up and wants to fight for his chance, aware that his future may largely depend on the first two matches after the international break—against Napoli in the league and Inter in the first leg of the Coppa Italia semifinal.
