Sergio Conceição took part in the "Coimbra Football Congress 2025," during which he made the following statements, as reported by diretta.it:
On his decision to accept Milan's offer:
"I wanted to go to one of the strongest leagues in the world. My dream and goal is to win the Champions League, and that's why I chose my current club. I was aware of the difficulties I would face—joining a team I didn’t build, with no time to train, and the obligation to win. However, it’s a historic club that can give me the opportunity to get closer to one of the main objectives of my career, after having won so much in Portugal."
On modern football:
"Nowadays, everyone likes to build from the back. I also like playing with width, but to do that, you need players capable of making it work. At Porto, I had a fantastic goalkeeper who made it possible, and I have one at Milan as well."
On difficulties at Milan, Conceicao said:
"In 30 days, we played nine matches. We haven't had time to train, which is extremely difficult and means I haven’t been able to imprint my identity on the team. After winning the Supercoppa against Inter, we drew against Cagliari due to an individual error—it happens. Since then, new coaches have been linked to the club every single day."
On a coach’s work:
"A coach shouldn’t just understand football. If you only know football, you know nothing. At one point in my life, I had to support my family financially. I went to help a cousin sell at the market. I was an introvert, but that period shaped who I am today. Live life with passion and hold onto every experience that comes your way."
