The halt in negotiations with Paratici will lead Milan to reopen talks to choose the next sporting director.
CEO Giorgio Furlani will start over from tomorrow with meetings and phone calls to identify the right person, after having revealed, during the pre-match of Milan-Fiorentina, the profile the club is looking for:
"The new sporting director? He must be someone who helps us win. What matters is that he’s the right person and competent—the timing doesn't matter."
In other words, the new sporting director might not be appointed by Easter, as was initially planned. Furlani and Milan intend to take all the necessary time to avoid making a mistake in a decision that is crucial for the club’s future.
With the Paratici track now at a standstill, names that had been somewhat set aside in recent weeks are coming back into focus.
Tuttosport writes this morning that Tony D'Amico and Igli Tare are the two candidates currently in the running, with the Albanian holding a slight advantage over the current Atalanta sporting director, as he is a free agent. This is a factor that should not be underestimated, especially since hiring the former Lazio director would allow Milan to begin planning for next season right away—a key aspect in avoiding the same mistakes that made this season both disappointing and extremely complicated.
