It ends in great disappointment for Milan Primavera: the Coppa Italia final goes to Cagliari, who win 3-0. At the end of the match and after the awards ceremony, Rossoneri coach Federico Guidi spoke in the press conference. Here are his statements, as relayed via Milannews.it:
Question, what did you say to the team after the match?
"We haven’t had the chance yet. Clearly, what I’ll try to do is get them to lift their heads up. We have to separate the result from the path they’re on. Even today, the result was very harsh, but if you look at the game, we played the entire match in their half. They were clinical and more experienced in capitalizing. That’s part of finals too—being able to deal with disappointment and learn from what went well and what didn’t. Against experienced teams, you have to make an impact with few chances. I need to focus on what the boys are doing, and I also liked their approach to the match—even in the second half, they kept pushing. We have to be good at resetting and gaining experience from this kind of game."
A tough defeat. As a mentor, what will you try to instill in the players’ minds?
"When you work with young players, it’s emotions that guide us and take us either high or low. You either take it as a great lesson, lift your head, and react to keep moving forward on your path—because you want to turn your passion into your profession—or you let the disappointment get to you, bury your head like an ostrich, and let it overwhelm you, which would be an unforgivable mistake. Disappointments are part of life."
