Giorgio Furlani, AC Milan CEO, spoke to DAZN before the Milan-Bologna match. These were his statements:
On Sergio Conceição’s future:
“Sergio arrived only in January and already won a trophy. Now he’s in a position to be the first coach since Ancelotti to win another one. It’s clearly something significant, but we are evaluating overall how things are going at Milanello, how he’s working, and we trust him.”
Will a sporting director be hired?
“In the past, I said we are evaluating if we should appoint a sporting director, and if we do, it must be someone who brings added value and helps us perform better and grow on the sporting side. But that’s definitely not the focus right now. The focus is on finishing the season well, and then we’ll see.”
Have you identified someone? Do you have a clear idea?
“I continue to say that it’s an if we hire someone. I don’t want to talk about names or profiles.”
Mathematically, you're not yet out of the Champions League for next year, but if you don’t finish fourth, would that change anything in terms of the budget for the transfer market or contract renewals? Furlani said:
“What changes is the disappointment of not being in what has historically been Milan’s home, the Champions League. I would focus on the frustration — both in my role and as a fan — of not qualifying for the Champions League. We’ll work hard to get back there as soon as possible.”
So can the fans be reassured about potential sales?
“There won’t be any change in strategy dictated by urgency due to not being in the Champions League.”
