Gigio Donnarumma, once again a protagonist with a Ballon d'Or-worthy save yesterday, will play in the first Champions League final of his career. Already a European champion with the national team, Donnarumma now dreams of achieving the same feat at club level, after his Paris Saint-Germain side secured a spot in the final in Munich by eliminating Arsenal in the semifinals.
Ironically, the 1999-born goalkeeper from Castellammare di Stabia will face an Italian team in the final act of the 2024–25 Champions League: Simone Inzaghi's Inter, featuring several of Donnarumma’s national teammates, three of whom were also part of the Euro 2021 winning squad — Francesco Acerbi (then at Lazio), Alessandro Bastoni, and Nicolò Barella.

Inter is also the club Donnarumma — whose contract with PSG expires on June 30, 2026 — has been linked with in recent transfer rumors. With just one year remaining on his deal next summer, Donnarumma could become a golden opportunity for many clubs if no renewal is agreed with PSG. And it’s well known that Inter has a master of free signings in Beppe Marotta.
Last December, responding to transfer links with Donnarumma, the Inter president commented:
“It’s common for top clubs to be linked with players approaching free agency. We have a competitive squad for our objectives and no urgency to fill gaps. Our job is always to monitor situations and market scenarios that fit our model — but to say we are currently negotiating anything? Definitely not."

One thing is certain: between now and May 31, Donnarumma’s full focus will be on PSG and the final against Inter. And all of Inter’s attention will be on Yann Sommer, the standout performer in their semifinal win over Barcelona.

PSG’s current renewal offer is seen as low and a better proposal is needed. Surprisingly, Juventus is back in the picture — the club had previously pursued Donnarumma before sealing the deal for Di Gregorio (recently bought from Monza).
The Bianconeri, who enjoy a strong relationship with PSG, are reportedly considering another attempt in the upcoming summer window. A €7 million per year contract is reportedly ready for the 1999-born keeper. Meanwhile, Manchester City — who would first need to sell Ederson — and Bayern Munich remain quietly interested in the background.
Donnarumma’s "painful story" at Milan…
As for Milan, the comments from former Rossoneri executive and current pundit Zvonimir Boban on Sky have sparked debate. The Croatian had this to say about Donnarumma’s 2021 free transfer to PSG:
"It’s a very painful and undignified story. I don’t know if Donnarumma is still considered a Milanista by Milan fans. I’m not here to blame a kid who was around 20 when he left, but think about it yourself — about your club and those colors you wore for so many years, the colors of the club that raised you."
