Decisive day for the future of Vincenzo Italiano.
A meeting is scheduled today between the top executives of the Bologna club and the coach who, 51 years after the last time, brought the Coppa Italia back to the city. The goal is to secure him, extend the contract expiring in 2026, and grant him a salary increase.
An agreement in the coming hours is possible, also because Italiano, who arrived last summer after three seasons at Fiorentina, has repeatedly stated that he feels comfortable on the rossoblù bench.
But watch out for Milan, who yesterday gave a major push to the sporting director issue. With it now certain that Sergio Conceição will be let go after the last match of the season, the Rossoneri are in search of a new coach, and today Italiano’s name is at the top of Milan's list.
An official offer could arrive soon, with Igli Tare tasked with quickly resolving the coaching matter and trying, first of all, to convince the manager born in Karlsruhe, who has been on CEO Giorgio Furlani’s mind for months.
In addition to Italiano, Massimiliano Allegri remains on the list, but the manager from Livorno is currently the main candidate to take over from Antonio Conte, should the latter leave Napoli after just one season.
The other name is Maurizio Sarri, a candidacy that is losing momentum given the arrival of the Albanian executive.
In recent days, Italiano had this to say about his stay in Bologna:
"I have a fantastic relationship with the club, and then we met a little while ago, agreeing that once things had settled down, we would sit down and talk about the future. We’ll do it calmly, with complete serenity. For now, let’s focus on celebrating."
