In the last few minutes, there has been an unexpected twist in the deal that was supposed to bring Theo Hernández back to Atletico Madrid. After a day that seemed marked by positive signs and an agreement that appeared imminent, a sudden halt has occurred in the final stages.

According to Sky Sport, the parties were very close to reaching a deal earlier in the day: the transfer was reportedly set at around 20 million euros, with Milan ready to let the French full-back leave and Theo himself open to the idea of returning to Spain, where he began his professional career.
Something suddenly went wrong, however. The reasons behind the standstill are still not entirely clear, but they may be related to contractual details or a failure by the Spanish club to make an improved offer. A deal that seemed all but done is now at serious risk of falling apart at the last moment.
It remains to be seen how things will develop, but for now, Theo’s return to La Liga seems significantly further away than just a few hours ago.
