The distance separating Luka Modric from Milan is getting shorter and shorter: with the 4-0 defeat in the Club World Cup semifinal against PSG, the Spaniards were eliminated from the competition, and the Croatian’s extraordinary career with the Los Blancos has officially come to an end. The captain departs after 13 years, but more importantly, after winning 13 titles — no player in Real Madrid’s trophy-laden history had ever won so much. The emotion at the final whistle in New York was immense: teammates and opponents alike paid the champion the recognition he deserved.

Now, holidays permitting, a new chapter of Modric’s career is about to begin — in Rossoneri colors. In a way, it’s a return to his childhood, as Modric has never hidden his passion for Milan since he was a boy. This morning, Tuttosport writes: “Modric, the dawn of the Rossoneri era.” The Croatian has already had an agreement with Milan for some time: only the medical tests and official announcement are missing. Then the 40-year-old star will sign a one-year contract worth €3.5 million, with an option for another year. The goal is to be a leader in the dressing room, helping his younger teammates, especially those in his position group — Samuele Ricci, to name a not-so-random example. And of course, there will also be the hunger to win and to prepare for the last World Cup of his career.
