AC Milan are preparing to complete another sale: Malick Thiaw is set to become a Newcastle player. The German defender is on the verge of joining the English club, with the official announcement expected in the coming hours, even if Rossoneri coach Massimiliano Allegri was cautious on the matter yesterday.

“The players I have are all very good, and Thiaw is one of them. The club is making its evaluations together with me, and we’ll see,” said the Milan boss after the friendly draw against Leeds.
Signed by Milan in the summer of 2022, Thiaw has so far made 84 appearances in the Rossoneri shirt, scoring once (in the Champions League win over Real Madrid by 3–1) and winning one trophy (the Italian Super Cup last January against Inter). But what would be the impact of his sale on Milan’s accounts? Here are the figures.
Thiaw’s sale impact on the balance sheet: the numbers
The 2001-born defender joined from Schalke 04 in summer 2022 with a recorded cost on the books, including bonuses, of €9.3 million. By 30 June 2025, his net book value, after amortisation, had fallen to around €3.8 million.
According to reports, the agreement between Milan and Newcastle was reached for a fixed sum between €35 million and €38 million, plus bonuses. This would mean a capital gain of between €31.2 million and €34.2 million.
On top of that, there will be the positive effect of saving on amortisation (€1.9 million) and gross wages (€1 million), leading to a total net positive impact of between €34.1 million and €37.1 million.
