This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport headlines:
“The King of San Siro. Modric, debut show: class and personality.”
On Sunday, against Bari in the Coppa Italia round of 64, Luka Modric made his official debut in a Milan shirt, coming on in the 65th minute to replace Samuele Ricci. In his 25 minutes on the pitch, the Croatian star touched the ball 41 times and offered a glimpse of his trademark class and personality.
Modric was greeted by the thunderous roar of a San Siro crowd of over 70,000, despite the unfavorable time of year. The midfielder appeared as emotional and joyful as the fans in the stands, and later shared his happiness on Instagram:
“My new home! Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all Milan fans for the wonderful welcome and affection you showed me yesterday at San Siro. See you on Saturday!”
